I took the plane to the airport on Friday, mounted the wings and went taxi testing yesterday. As simple as this may be for many of you, it was a bit of a thrill for me.

Congrats.  I moved mine to the airport Saturday, minus the wing installation and showing off :-)    Don’t believe anyone who says it isn’t a thrill.

Is there anybody on this list that is using the EC2 and getting an accurate signal to drive an inexpensive, off the shelf tach? What about those, not using the EC2, how are you getting your trigger signal?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Indeed the would.  Now that the EM-2 is farther off, I’m pretty happy I got those nice “temporary” gauges.  About the only thing I need to do is get the *&!!#@ tach working.  I was going to try to use my Fluke 87 meter, but I don’t think that will pass inspection :-)

Todd, are you using LS-1 coils?  If so, that may be our problem.  I know Tracy has Mazda coils, as does Tommy.  From Ed’s response, it sounds like he has them as well.  Is anyone actually running with GM coils who has a functional tach?  You’d think the trigger signal would be the same, but there has to be a reason this doesn’t work.  Don’t make me have to put a scope on it :-)

I called VDO about my tach, and they said it wouldn’t work with the ignition coil hookup.  I pointed out that their advertising and instructions said that it would.  His response was that I could waste time trying if I wanted to, but that it wouldn’t work.  Just great support…
