While it is true the injectors are staged with the
secondaries coming in at around 15" HG (around 2700 rpm), if the system is set
up as Tracy recommends with the injector on-off switches, you can run at low rpm
(idle) with either the primary or secondary on or off (well, one set must be on
{:>)). The processor simply doubles the injector Pulse width to
compensate for the lack of the second pair of injectors. While my engine
does like to idle a bit better on the primaries, it will idle on either
set.
As I mentioned, if you are idling on the primaries
and switch them off the secondaires may stumble a moment before kicking in, but
if you enrich the mixture slightly before turning off the primaries, the
secondaries will catch and keep the engine running.
At higher engine rpms both primaries and
secondaries are on (staged) and turning off either one does not seem to cause
the engine to stumble as it will if you do this while at low rpm (below staging
point).

Rusty,
As I
understand it, the injectors are staged. The secondaries only cut in at a
certain rpm. So, if you're rpm is below the staging point, and you kill the
primaries you have no fuel and engine will quit. Above the staging point the
secondaries would be supplying fuel. Just a theory, but it makes sense to
me...

If there is any way you could possibly squeeze me in
for a "look-see" I would be eternally grateful. I have a friend here who has
a Cozy MkIV and is interested in installing the same setup on his aircraft.
If you would consider "show and tell", we'd sure like a peek at it. Thanks,
and congratulations on bringing the engine to life. Paul Conner,

Hi
Paul,
If someone will
confirm that the engine should die when turning off the primary injectors at
low power, I’ll be airport bound next weekend. I thought I’d get a
quick answer, and the suspense is killing me. I’ll end up calling
Tracy tomorrow if nobody
replies. If that doesn’t work out, or if you want to come by before
the weekend, you’re welcome to come see it at the house as well. Bring
a tach that works :-)
Cheers,
Rusty
