My wife, Carol and I just returned from visiting
with Charlie and Tupper England at their airport home in central Mississippi.
What gracious hosts they were !!! We stayed up until 1 am talking rotaries,
etc. The next morning, Tracy Crook arrived as did Ed Anderson with roaring
fly-bys prior to landing. The first evening, we all agreed to try the local
catfish restaurant for a really good meal. We were all treated to a nice
breakfast by Tupper in the morning, then followed by a great barbeque cookout
for lunch. I'm glad I didn't fly there.....My plane would never have gotten off
the ground after all we ate. There were lots of experimental aircraft including
a Swearingen SX300 that, to my surprise, landed on the grass strip. Amazing
...with that short coupled landing gear and tiny tires. I watched his departure
with crossed fingers. Fortunately, it was uneventful. RV aircraft were
there in numbers. The weather was sunny and warm (bordering on hot), but there
were plenty of cold beverages and covered areas to counter the heat.
Wonderful barbeque pork, beans, corn, hot dogs, salads, deserts, etc, etc.
Of course the nicest part of these events are the people you meet and exchange
addresses with. For those unable to attend this year, I would highly
recommend marking it on your calendar for next year if Charlie and Tupper offer
to throw another such party. Paul and Carol Conner
