I thought the engine was supposed to run on one rotor. Rought, but enough to
keep you airborne was what I'd read somewhere.

I am trying to get more information from Chuck on that. It could be that
with all the things he tried it somehow quit and then would not restart.
That is the experience I had in a turbo car when an apex seal went out.
I was able to keep the engine running by keeping my foot on gas, and it got
me home 30 miles away, partially through city traffic. I had to do a lot of
clutching and braking with the left foot so I could keep my right foot on
the gas to keep the engine running. Once I got home and turned the engine
off, it engine would not re-start.
