Clearly the slot is larger at the top - is this due
to design or is this due to wear? Lynn??? Anybody?

Ed,
I still have
the brand new rotor that was dropped by the ceramic coaters, and I
just measured the two un-smashed apex seal slots. I also measured the
slots on the dead rotor that was involved in my oil out adventure. All the
slots measure 1.89mm, with no sign of being larger at the top of the slot than
the bottom.
