Ed,
$ 50 sounds about right- if you go ahead with getting the RX8 rotors and counter weights, could you weight the RX8 counter weights and let us know the weights for comparison.

Right, Bill

I have heard the same confusing story about the rotor weights.  However, there are counterweights available for the RX-8 rotors so I for the moment I am going to assume they are different from the Rx-7 9.7:1 rotors counterweights.  Clearly need more information.  The change to the much cheaper RX-8 rotors is attractive - depending on how much milling the slots cost.  I have been given an estimate of $50 a slot which would of course be $150 a rotor. That would bring the cost close to $420  each which is about $120 cheaper still than the 9.7:1 rotor.

So will spend the next couple of days getting information and advise before making a decision - need to get my airplane home.

I am going to look into this a bit more and find out how much to mill a rotor.  A lighter rotor => more rpms without increasing stress?

Ed Don't forget lighter rotors would require different balance weights. I have heard from various sources that the Renesis rotor was lighter and then that they weigh the same! Both from usually reliable sources, go figure.
