Like they were in ice ... Jim S. Jim, You hit on the one REAL likely failure mode for a filtered inlet, ICE! All FI certified aircraft are required to have an alternate air source for this reason. All the other possible problems mentioned are somewhat remote. Icing an air filter is a very real possibility. 2 sources is best.
