I had the misfortune of catching up with a duck at 5000 ft. In a C- 210 over Kingston, TN late one evening.  Stuffed a bunch of feathers and duck guts in the cowling around the oil cooler, and left a bloody trail over the wind shield.  No real damage at the time, (except for the seat cushion and clothing) but the wind shield had to be replace 6 months later due to a crack.  So anything is possible, and nothing is guaranteed, all we can do is mitigate the failure modes as best we can, and hope the plane is light enough to fly.

I flew thru a swarm of insects over Oklahoma once.  they plastered my canopy with guts.  not really news, except that I was flying at like 6,000'!
