Subject: [FlyRotary] Fw: Rx-8 Rotors
useable in 91 13B?
Here is the response I got from Mazdatrix about
using RX-8 rotors in a 91 block. The rotors are $270 less than the 9.7:1
rotors, but I imagine that milling the slot deeper will cut into that price
differential a bit. But, on the other hand I could have an RX - 7 1/2
engine in my aircraft.
I am going to look into this a bit more and find
out how much to mill a rotor. A lighter rotor => more rpms without
increasing stress?

You can run the renesis rotors if you get the
apex seal grooves milled deeper to accept the 86-95 apex seals, or the 74-85
3mm seals. The Renesis seals are not tall enough to pass over the exhaust port
without warping and breaking. You
also need to run the 86-95 corner seals, not the Renesis corner seals.
(there's a metallurgical conflict with the side housings)
The front and rear counterweights from the
Renesis engine to balance the rotors are available.

Can the RX-8 rotors be installed in the 91 13B
block? Assuming you get the seals, bearings, etc for the RX-8 Rotors?
Are counter weights for the lighter RX-8 Rotors
available?
Thanks
