The best ring seat requires some moderate power running. In a vette, porsche, whatever, you need to run the car at at least 50% briefly to get good seating. Something that makes a lot of cars oil burners. A lot of the Northstar Caddies as well. If you live and work in town it can often be hard to run at 20%! Most of the bike race engines we would run in easy for a few laps ( could be less than 10 minutes) come in change the oil (Mobile 1 at first change to RedLine) we used Mobile1 at first since we would be changing it in 10-20 minutes. We check the oil for metal or obvious problems, refuel and then WAIL. Tear downs after 1/2 a season of racing often showed no measureable signs of wear in the bores or the bearings. The crosshatch in the cylinders, (which we made finer and finer as the years went by down to 600 grit) was usually not even worn off. The 2 strokes with chrome bores and rings would be run hard from the start, although those are needle bearing engines and there is no genuine break in to speak of.
