Joe, I seriously doubt it. I broken my
in about three hours of ground running and I am not even certain that was
required. The important thing is to break it in using mineral based oil
rather than a synthetic then changing the filter.
Hi Ed,
Well, I hope you're wrong about that mineral based oil
thing, because I've got Mobile One in mine, and plan to leave it there. I
do have mostly used parts in the engine though, at least as far as bearings and
such go.
I've spent a lot of time recently wondering about this
break in business as well. I'm at the point where I need to start
seriously running the engine on the ground, in preparation for flight this
weekend (or sooner). Tuning will consume some of that time, so I guess
it's just as well that auto tune hasn't arrived. Beyond that, I sure don't
plan to run more than a few hours on the ground, and I'm pretty sure the folks
at the airport would string me up by the naughty bits if I did.
My primary break in plan is a brief high power run to
1400 feet over my airport (because the Navy has a lid on my airspace), then
laps at various rpms. I'll bring a few CD's :-)
Rusty (wishing NAS Whiting would end up on the base
closure list)
