Wendell Veto found a backshell for the 37 pin connector that will allow a 45 degree cable exit from the connector. This should give more room for the cable. It is available from Mouser.  Part # is 636-971-037-010-011  Norcomp (mfg.) D-Sub backshell # 971-037-010-011.
