Use purple on 1/4" and smaller fasteners because you CAN get it loose without destroying the head.  Motorcycles use lots of 6mm and I have found the #222 friendlier here; 242 works too but it is harder to remove the fastener.  Just depends on the requirement?

What did we do before the web?  Lots of useful information there, but I couldn’t find anything on Purple Locktite (222).  It was listed on the back of the package of Blue that I had at home.  I’ll check the auto parts stores this weekend.

    If you go to Loctite's web site http://www.loctite.com/int_henkel/loctite/entry.cfm 

they have an excellent product search feature. You enter the info as to your required use and it will list all applicable products along with product data sheets.
