No offence but in this case I found that grease or equivalent harden's with time & the cable will be stiff again WD40 or equivalent used periodically works out better in the long run.

I wouldn't use WD-40 as a permanent lubrication. It's only good for a
temporary lube and cleaning. It will dry out - and pull oils out of
metal and leave you in a worse mess.
Use a good grease - even Vaseline is fine for cables and will last a
good long while.
