Ernest, The perm.mag. ALTERNATOR is an alternator. It doesn't use brushes and a commutator. There are/were excited field generators as well. The PM alternator uses a y winding and a diode grid to output dc just like a excited winding alt. Our system should put out charging voltage at or very close to idle. Bill
