Hi
Rusty;
That was me who said this based on my own experience. The
shop phoned me when they received my rotors and warned me that the bearings
wouldn't survive the process and when I received them back, the bearing surface
was porous and showed signs of bubbling in places. Fortunately I'd already
ordered and received a new set of bearings.
However I should mention that the shop that did the work,
while experienced with coating pistons, had never done rotors before and after
my detonation incident the coating had all flaked off. So this could be an
indication of their incompetence.
My recommendation to you is to have them coated. You will
have a few weeks of downtime while the hangar repairs are ongoing and the cost
of new bearings is minimal. Call performance coatings about this... maybe they
can do it without overheating the bearings.
10 degrees is still 10 degrees that you'd like to have in
reserve when you're running hard with Tracy hot on your
tail:-)

(betting that Tracy has ceramic coating)
I'm still debating the
ceramic coating (thanks Steve). I may call Performance
coatings tomorrow, and see how fast they say they can turn them
around. I'll also ask about the temp of the process, because Bruce said
his shop doesn't damage the bearings. I can't recall now who said this
would happen. I could possibly send them the rotors, and get them
back in time to stay on my original schedule, so it's at least worth
looking into.
