 Hi Ian,

    No, I have not tried stainless steel shavings, however, I did get some
stainless steel scrub pads and stuffed around a dozen into the tubes back a
year or more ago.  They lasted a couple of weeks.  They did not surcum to
the heat, but the shock wave pounded them into small 1/4" lengths and blew
them out the end.  However, I suspect they did not have the structural
integrity of a strip of stainless steel shavings, so, if I can locate a
source, I'll give it a try.

    It appears that several materials (including the stainless steel
shavings) can hold up to the temperature of the exhaust but most of those
seem to  have trouble with the shock of the exhaust pulse.  Onward with
experimentation, but first, to Sun & Fun.
