My last muffler system was two 48" tubes with 1/8" holes (250 holes in each) along their length. It certainly did move the nose level from the "ear shattering" to just "LOUD" and did not adversely affect power, so from that standpoint could be said to "work well". I also suspect having the exhaust to the rear of his Long EZ probably helped at least during flight to keep the nose down in the cockpit. So I can certainly believe Ron's exhaust helped quite the exhaust bark. However, I decided that a different approach might offer better. My new muffler system reduces the noise level by 10 dB and witnesses claimed at WOT the exhaust can not be heard over the Prop noise. I completed the installation today and fired it up again to make certain I had not hallucinated the results - Nope, just as quite today. Tomorrow, I will see whether there is a price to pay in performance. Stay tuned.
