By switching the primary and secondary electrical plugs and running yesterday, we pretty much isolated the problem to be one of the primary injectors. We had heard all 4 of the injectors produce a sharp clicking two weeks ago today when Tracy was here.
Pulled the primary injectors today and made a poor mans flow bench. Plumbed a piece of shop air hose onto the fuel supply line from the walbro pumps and T’d a line to the injector. Just took the O-ring off the top of the injector and put the air hose on with a clamp. Connected the 3rd leg of the T to the secondary rail so that we would have regulated pressure on the test piece. Tried the injector from rotor 1 primary and it would not click without fuel pressure. Pressurized it and it did not leak but also would not flow when 12 volts was applied. The rotor 2 injector performed as expected.
This makes sense with what I was experiencing on the engine runs. It would not run on rotor 1 during the early part of the run because it was only getting half the desired fuel flow. Since I had flooding originally (no 5 ohm resistors and 10 psi too high regulated fuel pressure) , assumed that was still a problem. Now believe that rotor 1 was too lean but would eventually light off when the engine temps came up some. In the meantime it is shaking the airplane severely. Yesterday I was exploring the leanest mixture it would run and then turned it rich and rotor 1 lit off. But once it did the rotors were still very mismatched until the one operating primary injector was disabled. The EC2 doubles the flow to other set when one is disabled. Now the EGT’s were very close to matching.
Ed Anderson has graciously agreed to loan me his sister prop to the old otter bird prop for a comparative test to his and Tracy’s out put when they had the obsolete gear ratios :>)
New ejector in town tomorrow afternoon, but probably will not pick it up until Sat. Might get an attempt off this week end , but more than likely Monday.
Rusty, I appreciate your offer but ordered one from Advance Auto so hopefully am going to put this initial clich thing behind me and get on with DAR and flying.
