Al,
here's one possibility that you might considered
1.
A problem in the EC2 sensing manifold pressure being sensed. In other
words,
it is "staged" all the time which if the case would of course provide
too
much fuel at the lower rpms with all 4 injectors on. Switching off the
primaries
then "destages" the circuit and you get a smooth idle at lower
rpm.
Could be the MAP sensor or your manifold pressure sensing hose.
I guess the order in
which I described the behavior was confusing. It is smooth at low rpm and
MAP when the primary are off; requires a bit of leaning and is less smooth when
both are on; requires still a bit more leaning and runs the worst when the
secondary are off. The EM2 is reading the MAP sensed by the EC2 sensor. The
EM2 reading is about 10% too low according to a vacuum gauge that I T’d into
the line.
I set the EC2 to mode
7, ran the engine up to 15.5” MAP based on the gauge, and pressed the set
button; to try to be sure the stage point was properly set. Didn’t
seem to make any difference.
2.
Have you tried the "B" controller? same results or different?
If it
were
the A controller MAP sensor or its sensing hosing then switching to
"B:"
should cause it to run smoother.
I had tried controller
B before I had the MAP filtering set up, but the behavior was the same as
A. Right now I have the vacuum gauge connected in place of controller B.
3.
Primary injectors could be leaking - but, if it were truly leaking then I
wouldn't
think turning off the primary would stop the leak.
The
fact that it is running well on the secondaries but runs worst when both
are
on
Was there a thought
here that got interrupted?
Thanks for your
thoughts here Ed. I have again checked wiring and grounds, etc., and don’t
know what I’ll do next. Checked the staging relay and secondary
power circuit is “on” when everything is off (relay not energized).
With engine off, EC2 on, relay is energized and secondary power is off (not
sure this is normal). However; with engine running and MAP below stage
point, relay is not energized, and secondary power is “on” (not
normal). Relay coil connects to +12 and to pin 35, which I understand
closes to ground when MAP is below staging point.
