Greetings,

I was curious=20 what Mazda recommends for the Renesis engine now, so I did some=20 searching.  The owners manual specifies 5w20 for all = conditions, but=20 what do they know :-)

Naturally,=20 there could be a difference between the 13B and Renesis as it relates to = oil,=20 but I'd bet money against it.  I think the real reason is that oil = is=20 better than it was a decade or two ago, and manufacturers are realizing = the=20 benefits of lighter, but higher quality oils.  Of course the main=20 "benefits" may be mileage, and HP, rather than longevity, but if the=20 manufacturer will stand behind the engine for X number of miles, you can = bet=20 their recommendation is sufficient.

On the=20 subject of synthetic, I couldn't find an answer than I considered=20 conclusive.  It was specifically prohibited in the RX-7, but again, = that=20 could have been due to the oil injection, and the quality of synthetic = oils 20=20 years ago.  It sounds like the current recommendations for the = Renesis=20 doesn't say anything about synthetic oil.  In other words, it = doesn't say=20 you can't, and it doesn't say you can.  People are reporting the = same old=20 tired stories I used to hear when I had the FD- "my dealer said someone = put=20 synthetic in his rotary engine and it ruined it, so don't use synthetic=20 oil".  Total BS as many of us know first hand.  =

Just feeding=20 the fire, while I work on my rudder.
