My impression is that there are two guidelines regarding RD1A/B redrive drain;

 

  1. Drain should return above the surface of the oil in the pan.  The reason being that it is likely that under certain conditions the oil will be foamy, and would tend to ‘float’ on the clear oil backed up the line, thus reducing/restricting flow.
  2. Since the oil drains by gravity, the line should have some downward slope to the return port.

 

In my case, returning to the turbo oil drain port gives very little downward slope to the line, but there is the vertical drop at the ports through the fittings.  It seems to me returning to the injector pump opening doesn’t meet the second guideline. 

 

The lowest drain port on the drive is under the gear set.  I’m wondering if rotation of the ring gear would cause some “pumping” action to force the oil out the drain.

 

Joes idea seems like a good one, as long as we are sure that drilling through there goes to the panJ.
