I what I observed here holds up, the combo port idea may be dead making the one rotor a more simple and better engine.
This also reminded me of the NSU Wankel Spider, which did not have a cup and was running very fine.

Thanks for the report Richard.  Are you saying that you'll be able to just use a PP, with a carb, and no fancy linkage or other valves?  If so, that's great.  
 
Curious, did you buy your e-shaft, or make it yourself.  I understand you can make one out of a 13B shaft, but it's a pretty serious lathe operation.   I'm neither qualified, nor equipped for such a job.   
 
Also, remind me again what you think you will be able to get the weight down to.  I'm looking at a few planes that can use a 912ULS, and read that everything required for the engine weighed  163 lbs.
